Ruby is a young-looking, fair-skinned boy that, like Riddle, Epel, and Lilia, is considerably shorter than most of his peers. His hair is an onyx black with pastel blue tips, and is cut quite long around his face, hanging down in chest length segments that form into a single large curl at the end of each. His eyes are mismatched orange amber (left) and crimson garnet (right). Ruby's bangs swish to the right, and three prominent blue strands of hair are positioned equally above his bangs, with the center most one bearing the shape of a crescent. He also has a rather large cowlick that hangs down and overlaps the crescent like strand. Across the bridge of his nose, a mesh of freckles adorns his skin. In his human form, he is quite often seen with a worried look on his face. He wears amethyst studs in both ears, and both of his canine teeth are sharp points.Mermaid Form
Under the sea, Ruby's form is primarily a dark greenish blue with a white belly, chest, hands, and face. He has five white streaks throughout his tail. The tail itself ends in an exaggerated v shape with long, flowing white tendrils with crimson tips trailing off of it. He also has similar tendrils dangling from his pelvic region. Throughout his body, he has multicolor freckles, and on his cheeks are two sets of red stripe markings. His fins, ear frills, and webbing are all crimson, as well. His hair, eyes, and mouth do not change between forms.Dorm Uniform
Ruby's dorm uniform is similar to the rest of the Octavinelle students, however, unlike the others, he doesn't wear any makeup with it. The uniform’s top consists of a black, double-breasted suit, a lavender-gray scarf, a button-up undershirt, and a bow tie. The uniform also comes with black, high-waisted dress pants, white gloves, and a black fedora.His undershirt is light-purple, and while he should wear the bow tie with it, even if it's simply draped over his shoulders, he doesn't. The double-breasted suit has a purple underlining, and Ruby keeps it unbuttoned. He also keeps his undershirt partially unbuttoned. Under Ruby’s suit appear to be dark-purple suspenders. His lavender-gray scarf drapes over both his shoulders and under the suit’s lapels. The scarf has fringed ends, with the symbol of Octavinelle printed on one end.Ruby wears black and white, knee-high, slip-on boots that appear to be buttoned along each side. He also refuses to wear the gloves. One unique addition to his dorm uniform is the inclusion of his red pearl that he wears around his neck, and never removes.

Ruby most often isn't even noticed by the people around him, which has made him refer to himself as a wallflower. He's soft-spoken, quiet, shy, and keeps to himself. He stutters a bit when uneasy, caught off guard, or nervous, and trips over his own words. When he walks or stands idle, he tends to make himself as small as possible, taking up very little space at all. For those who actually get him to open up, he becomes very animated and excitable over animals. He's sensitive and soft, even considered over-sensitive at times. Ruby's egg was one of many to a proud family of angelfish merfolk. They'd expected to have a massive family with all these eggs, but sadly, the day would never come. His parents and the rest of the eggs were all slaughtered and eaten by a shark. Only his survived by sheer luck. As fate would have it, the egg rolled into a patch of kelp in the tussle, obscuring it from view. Later that day, the mother of his own mom, his grandmother, inspected the wreckage to see if anything was left. Her daughter had been torn to shreds. That's when the egg caught her attention. She'd seen it out of the corner of her eye. She carefully pulled the small egg into her hands, cradling it.From that day on, she decided to raise the one who might hatch as her own, and when a baby boy was born, she named him Ruby for the unique red streaks on his face, and the crimson pearl that was brought into existence when he broke free from the egg's thin membrane. Her dear grandchild.Ruby spent most of his childhood with animals rather than merfolk, showing an aptitude for understanding their many languages far better than a normal mermaid. His best friend was a small, malformed dolphin named Fritz. When he was seven, Fritz was taken away by a shark, and when he was eleven, another shark attack took the lives of two kids his age, forcing him to realize he couldn't have friends, nor could he tame or calm a shark. He remained this way, becoming a wallflower in school and elsewhere, only interacting with animals, until he was accepted into Night Raven.On land, in the bootcamp alongside Azul, Jade, and Floyd, he slowly reached out to them to assist them in walking, as he'd been instructed by a finch. During their first year, he spent most of his time as Azul's errand boy, believing a friendship existed that didn't. It was only one-sided. Yet he never complained, nor did he ever want anything in return. By the start of the second year, he's very supportive of Jade's club and joins along for hikes when he can, despite being a member of the Equestrian Club.Unique Magic

Ruby's unique magic is called "Song of the Deep Sea Whale." It's magic that is able to freeze any one person in place for ten seconds via a forlorn cry, much like a lonely whale song. This does not work if he's anxious or unfocused. His spell doesn't work on anyone stronger than him, which unfortunately is many people.Though, he can force it to work on people stronger than him if he really desires, and on multiple targets, however, this leads to rapid blot buildup, and will cause an overblot quickly. The toll it takes on his body is far too great as well if he attempts this.Unlike other unique magics that require an incantation to activate, his must be triggered by a whale song.
